New Year, New Me!

Among the 10 goals people most commonly set, the top three are almost always 'exercise to get in shape', 'diet to lose weight' and to 'save money’. Whilst sweets aren’t the healthiest option to eat during a diet, we are certainly one of the cheapest options to eat for a treat!

All Buzz Sweets have the nutritional values printed on the back of the packets and soon to be updated on calorie tracking apps such as My Fitness Pal.
Another option is to also check out our huge selection of branded nuts, Philon Nuts! Nuts and seeds are an amazing superfood that contain a bunch of antioxidants to keep you fit, healthy and fuller for longer! Rich in fibre, protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals that help you burn that belly fat and lose weight. So, we have compiled this handy guide to all the health benefits of some of our most popular and healthiest nuts!

Almonds

One of nature's superfoods! Rich in heart-healthy fats, packed with protein and antioxidants. These nuts are known for preventing overeating as the fibre within them suppresses hunger, despite needing to eat only a small amount!
Amazingly, they contain an amino acid called L-arginine that even helps you burn fat. Eating 3-5 almonds everyday has been associated with greater weight loss and higher fat metabolism. The fibre and protein in these nuts also keep your digestive health in check. So a great choice all round!

Walnuts

Walnuts are another choice high in heart-healthy unsaturated fats that make them great for weight loss! With only a handful of walnuts everyday they help to stimulate fat loss and promote a healthy body weight. Known for their amazing appetite-control power; thanks to the presence of omega-3 fatty acids, plant-sterols and vitamins that suppress hunger! They're also a good source of magnesium and phosphorus that is highly beneficial for good muscle function and bone mass.
They're also a highly versatile ingredient for all types of dishes, adding them to your appetizers, soups, main dishes and desserts are sure to boost the flavour and health benefits! Why not boost the nutrition of your oats with a delicious bowl of cinnamon and walnut porridge or even sprinkling a handful of crushed walnuts to your salads to fill you up for longer!

One more cool fact, walnuts are the oldest tree food known to man! Dating back to 7,000 B.C! The ancient Greeks and Romans were well aware that walnuts had special health benefits and wrote extensively of their medicinal uses.

Pistachios

Pistachios also contain a protein that helps keep you fuller for longer, thereby preventing you from reaching out to junk food. In one 24-week study, with individuals with excess weight, showed that those who consumed 20% of calories from pistachios lost 0.6 inches (1.5 cm) more from their waistlines than those who did not eat pistachios (17 Trusted Source).
Pistachios are among the lowest-calorie nuts. 28 grams of pistachios contains 159 calories, compared with 185 calories in walnuts and 193 calories in pecans. With protein making up  about 20%, pistachios are second only to almonds when it comes to protein content. They also have the highest ratio of essential amino acids than any other nut! These amino acids are considered essential because your body cannot make them, so you must obtain them from your diet for a healthy wholesome diet.

Brazil Nuts

Brazil nuts come loaded with fibre and protein, both of which are essential for losing weight. They are also a good source of selenium, magnesium, phosphorus and thiamine, all of which are said to be helpful in weight loss. Brazil nuts also contain L-arginine that is efficient in the fat burning process and help kick-start your metabolism!
With the highest concentration of selenium, brazil nuts are great for the production of the thyroid hormone T3, as well as proteins that protect your thyroid from damage. Low selenium intake can lead to a range of health issues and may also increase your risk of thyroid cancer.
One large study in China showed that people with low selenium levels had a significantly higher prevalence of thyroid disease, such as hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, and an enlarged thyroid, compared to those with normal levels. This highlights the importance of getting adequate selenium intake. Just one Brazil nut per day should deliver enough selenium to maintain proper thyroid function! So stock up now!
